Industry Day Program | 25 November
The second day of the 2022 Independent Publishing Conference will feature industry professionals speaking on important topics such as ‘Sustainability’, ‘Cultural policy review’ and ‘Diversity’. Discussions will entail how libraries select and buy their books, the history of independent publishing in Australia as well as data from the Nielsen BookScan market report. Dr Ben Eltham (Monash University) is our keynote speaker for the day and will be leading his session on responding to cultural policy. Please also join us later in the evening for the SPN Book of the Year Award presentation.

Keynote speaker
Dr Ben Eltham
Dr Ben Eltham is a lecturer in Media and Communications at Monash University. He completed a doctoral thesis on cultural policy at Western Sydney University’s Institute of Culture and Society, and also held a post-doctoral fellowship at Deakin in the Centre for Memory, Imagination and Invention. In 2016 he published his monograph, When the Goal Posts Move: Patronage, power and resistance in Australian cultural policy 2013-2016 (Currency House). Dr Eltham’s research focus is Australian public policy of culture, a topic he has written extensively about in peer-reviewed articles, essays, creative works and edited book chapters. He also served as a judge for the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism in 2020.
