Introducing: Associate Producer Bridget Black

Hi there!

My name is Bridget Black and I’m one of the Associate Producers for the 2019 Independent Publishing Conference.

I’m currently completing a Master of Writing and Publishing at RMIT, having previously graduated with a Bachelor of Music at Monash University (on the odd occasion, you still can catch me playing the saxophone!). The course has provided fantastic opportunities to explore the various facets of the publishing industry and I’m looking forward to further developing my skill set by taking on a programming position at this year’s conference. In the past I have volunteered with The Small Press Network as well as the Emerging Writers’ Festival and Melbourne Writers Festival, and am always on the lookout for storytelling events to attend and be inspired by.

I have always loved books of any genre and devouring them at possibly too fast a pace. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be involved with the SPN team as I have a particular interest in Australian writing and supporting the absolute wealth of small publishing houses we are fortunate enough to have in this country. Books are an increasingly important method of idea circulation and small presses often produce works that are at the heart of many modern cultural discussions—I consider myself very lucky to be able to work in this environment.

Outside of the literary world I enjoy going to gigs, eating dumplings and drinking copious amounts of tea.

You can find me over on Twitter and LinkedIn, and I look forward to seeing you at this year’s conference!
